Hey, I’m Isabel –
I’m a costume designer and fiber artist living in Queens.
Growing up in the rural Pacific Northwest with an interest in clothes, I taught myself to sew, knit, and create jewelry in order to build the wardrobe I wanted but had no access to. It wasn’t until moving to Seattle to attend the University of Washington that I realized my hobbies could become an entire career.
While in Seattle, I designed costumes for productions all across the UW campus: the Undergraduate Theatre Society, UW’s Dance Department, and the UW School of Drama as well as independent video and fiber-based performance art projects. I completed a costume design internship with Seattle Children’s Theatre and designed several productions for Taproot Theatre. I graduated in 2017 with a BA in Drama and History, completing an honors thesis for the latter that explored the construction and social implications of Early Modern embroidery.
Upon graduation, I accepted a position as resident Costume Design Assistant at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, where I had the pleasure of working with prominent costume designers from across the country as well as designing several productions each year for ATL’s apprentice company. I held this position for three seasons, until the Covid-19 shutdown.
I spent three seasons managing the costume department of Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, MA, which fluctuated in size from three to thirteen staff members through the seasons. From there, I moved to Queens in the fall of 2021 as work picked back up post-shutdown.
Since arriving in NYC, I have worked for shows on Broadway, as well as productions with Classic Stage Company, The Public, Audible Theatre, Folksbiene, Martha Graham, Papermill Playhouse and Disney. I spent much of 2023 as an MTO Assistant/Shopper for Madonna’s Celebration Tour and have also worked as an NYC-based assistant for regional theaters including the American Repertory Theater, Opera Theatre St. Louis, Center Theatre Group, and The Alley.
